Doc to Dock

Doc to Dock is a humanitarian aid organization based out of NY. Their mission is very similar to ours, yet they operate on a much larger scale. They too collect surplus medical supplies from US hospitals that they redistribute to resource-poor hospitals around the world. Founded in 2005 by Dr. Bruce Charash, they have already sent twenty-six 40′ containers of donated supplies around the world. Most recently they sent to Ghana (just like us!). The program is supported by the Clinton Global Initiative. We are currently in talks with Dr. Charash about potentially coming to speak at the University this semester about his inspirational work, so look out for updates about this!
In the following video, Dr. Charash offers an eloquent (and succinct) summary of Doc to Dock’s mission:
When I spoke with Dr. Charash a couple of weeks ago, he told me that they have since refocused their “Amazon.com for donated medical supplies” goal. Instead, they are working to adopt an inventory and selection system that will better cater to the specific needs of different hospitals. The system he described is very similar to the one that we have been working to implement for U2H. Overall, it seems that we are fighting this issue in a very similar way. Feel free to email me for more details about the system I’m describing.
This next video begins with a great introduction from President Clinton:
