Mission Accomplished: Ghana Container Away!

4/4/09: WE DID IT! Shipping day was a HUGE success, and the 40′ container is on its way to Ghana. From 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, COA members and volunteers joined forces to load the container for shipment.

Next stop? Ghana! The supplies will arrive in Ghana in about one month, where they will be met by Ghanaian Liaison Kofi Gyan and 4 COA members (Joey Perosky, Danielle Kaplan, Nathan Cole, and Jordan Harris). Once there, the supplies will be loaded into trucks and delivered to hospitals in the Sene district and the city of Tamale. Click here to read more about our commitment to Ghana.

COA members worked in the truck to ensure that we were utilizing all of the space we could. Outside of the truck, members lined up with boxes and equipment to be loaded into the container (in a pre-determined order). In total, we stuffed the container to maximum capacity with:

  • Loading from the inside.

850 boxes of medical supplies (gloves, gauze, syringes, etc.)

  • 43 IV poles
  • 20 pairs of crutches
  • 15 walkers
  • 12 hospital beds and exam tables
  • 8 wheelchairs
  • 5 X-ray reading lights
  • 2 scales
  • An autoclave
  • An EEG machine
  • An infant photo-therapy machine
  • AND MUCH MUCH MORE!

Thank you to everyone who made this day possible. COA members, students, and community members volunteered many of hours of their time in order to make this project successful. Together, we clocked thousands of hours of volunteer time, and the work is not in vain. COA is a community project, and nothing represents this idea more than sending a container!

Thank you from COA!
